Hi All, My sis had two pet rats several years ago. They were sisters. She named them Sophie and Zoey. Sophie was really cute; fat and a food lover. She sadly passed away like half a year after we got her. Zoey lived for almost two years. She loved to eat, but was always slimmer than Sophie, and a bit more shy and cuddly. She loved to sit in towels in my sister's lap, or mine. She would eat vegetables and cherios out of our hand, or out of her bowl. She loved to climb on her cage and gnaw on things. Zoey would often run around in the bathroom while Courtney and I supervised her. Zoey had three surgeries in her time, including one to remove a tumor on her foot, one to neuter her and somethign else I can't remember. Eventually, she got an infection of some sort that spread throughout her whole body. She couldn't clean herself anymore, could hardly walk, and was just deteriorating and obviously in pain. It was horrible, but we had to put her to sleep. My sister was upset for a month afterwords, and still kind of chokes up about her. Lol. We loved those rats. Some people think rats are horrible, with their long tails. But rats are really sweet, like puppies or kittens. Have any of you had rats? Caitlin

I want a rat. I know someone who has two named Lilith and Delilah. (she also has two mice named Lucy and Ethel) Rats are so cute and smart, but my mom hates rodents and won't let me get one.

TYeah I forgot to mention how smart they were. Lolo. They did some really smart things. Like they'd sleep on the top of their cage when it was cold 'cause the heat would rise, and they'd snuggle up together when it was cold too. And when it was hot they'd sleep below and at opposite corners. THey did loads of other things but i can't remember. Lol. They're really fun pets, and really pretty easy to take care of, if they're healthy and you're responsible. But, in ZOey's case, all her operations and upkeep were like 1000 times what she cost to purchase, which was about five bucks. Lol. Caitlin

Excellent creatures I want 1 badly but we own or rather she owns us a homicidal cat who eats rodents for various meals and wouldnt think twice about adding Luna to her menu.

Hahahaha, Yeah, My sister when she was four named them blacky and whitey. I didn't get to name them. Then, we had a Hamster, and that's a bit different.

Rats are great when you don't own a cat. We have a ferret that Balthazar plays with and Annabelle just ignores. Mom had a pet rat that went to school with her. She would sleep in her desk and eat out of her hand. Her name was Duchess and she was a plump little thing with silky white fur. You couldn't do that today, take a rat to school I mean. I have more connection with hamsters but Annabelle would wait until I was asleep before knocking over the cage and eating our furry friend, either that or Balthazar would figure out how to get the top off the hamster ball. I don't advice owning the food chain. Cats chase rats after all. Tiffany

I've owned pet rats for almost 9 years now.
The rat I currently have is Luna, a black hooded rat.
She wasn't very socialized while with her previous owner.
She bites and she's very timid of the world outside of her cage.
She's a little over a year and a half in age.
I love rats, but I think the next one or two I get will be males.
